Electric

  • Indiana Michigan Power (AEP / I&M) – Primary electric provider for most of South Bend and surrounding areas. Phone: 1-800-311-4634 | indianamichiganpower.com

  • Mishawaka Utilities – Serves the City of Mishawaka (electric, water, and wastewater). Phone: 574-258-1630 | mishawaka.in.gov

Natural Gas

  • NIPSCO (Northern Indiana Public Service Company) – Main natural gas provider across the region. Phone: 1-800-464-7726 | nipsco.com

Water, Sewer & Trash

  • South Bend Municipal Utilities (Water Works) – Handles water, sewer, and residential trash for properties inside the City of South Bend. Call 311 or 574-233-0311 | Online: utilities.southbendin.gov

  • Mishawaka Utilities – Water and sewer for the City of Mishawaka. Phone: 574-258-1630

Note for Granger and unincorporated areas: Services can vary by specific address. Some residents use private water systems, wells, or different trash providers (Republic Services, Waste Management, and others are common). Always confirm based on your exact location.

Internet & Cable

Availability depends on your street, but popular options in the area include:

  • Xfinity (Comcast)

  • AT&T

  • Metronet (fiber in many neighborhoods)

Check coverage at each provider’s website using your new address before committing.

Other Helpful Local Resources

  • City of South Bend 311 – One-stop number for many city services, trash schedules, and questions: dial 311 or 574-233-0311.

  • Change of Address – Update with the USPS online or at your local post office.

  • Vehicle & Driver’s License – Visit the Indiana BMV to update your registration and license.

  • Voter Registration – Update your address through the St. Joseph County Election Board if needed.
